Digging into the game files of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, players were able to come across files for a ‘Second Wave’. It was rumored that Second Wave would be unlocked after a successful run of the whole game and would bring new advanced options which would tweak the game for a second run. However, players would soon come to know that completing the game would unlock no such option.
The options for Second Wave include:
- Damage Roulette
- Red Fog
- New Economy
- Not Created Equally
- Hidden Potential
- Absolutely Critical
- The Greater Good
Greg, the community manager for 2K Games took to the forums and explained to players what Second Wave actually was:
The “Second Wave” settings that some people have found by digging in to the game files was a feature that the team was toying around with, but it was not ever finished by the time the game released. It’s something the dev team at Firaxis is still interested in going back to and working on, but at this point we don’t have any firm plans to share.
Perhaps we might see them in action in the shape of a future DLC.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown was just recently released for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
