Microsoft Research Reveals Digits – Wrist-Worn 3D Hand Tracker
A Microsoft Research team has released work done so far on a 3D hand tracker called Digits. The device uses infrared technology for it’s tracking purposes and is worn by strapping the device on to your wrist.
David Kim, the project leader told NewScientist that their primary objective was to come up with a technology more accurate than the current Kinect.
Digits can track finger movements with astonishing accuracy. Also the device does not rely on an external sensor; hence the advantage of not being stuck to a defined space.
It has to be asked if are we seeing the future of Kinect here and will this replace the current gaming sensor when the new Xbox releases?
