Capcom Explains On-Disc DLC for Resident Evil 6

The ethics of downloadable content have been under scrutiny for some time, and since the release of Street Fighter X Tekken, Capcom has faced criticism for including locked DLC on-disc.

Why release a game for full-price, with locked content already included on the disc, only to sell the locked content at an extra price soon after the game’s release? Because people will still buy it, that’s why.

Though Capcom stated it would “reevaluate” the practice of on-disc DLC, a YouTube user recently found that Resident Evil 6, too, contained locked DLC on-disc.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Capcom justified the DLC, stating that – “We still have unannounced DLC for RE6 that will be revealed in the coming months and while virtually all such content will not be on the disc there will be one piece of content, that for technical reasons, requires the use of a combination of newly downloadable data and data that is included on the retail game disc.”
