World of Warcraft Used to Discredit Maine Democrat
Could you imagine a person’s interest in a particular novel or film being used against that person to discredit her? For Colleen Lachowicz of Waterville, Maine, it’s her love of a particular videogame that’s being used to spear her campaign for state senate. It seems the “fantasy world” of videogames is still too outlandish for the Maine Republican Party, which has set up a website specifically for mining Lachowicz’ forum posts regarding World of Warcraft.
The headline of the website reads “Maine needs a State Senator that lives in the real world, not in Colleen’s fantasy world,” under a grotesque manipulation of Lachowicz morphing into her green WoW avatar. David Sorensen, Maine Republican Party Spokesman, issued a press release, because Lachowicz’ videogaming is obviously the kind of issue politicians need to discuss right now.The press release outlines Lachowicz’ “disturbing alter-ego,” with quotes like “So I’m a level 68 orc rogue girl. That means I stab things…a lot. Who would have thought that a peace-lovin’, social worker and democrat would enjoy that?!”
Her comments, of course, are not in the best light for a potential senate seat holder, but should her online behavior in a videogame dictate the perception of her in the real world? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
