Capcom has announced that they have broken previous shipping records by dispatching over 4.5 million copies of Resident Evil 6.
In comparison, around 4 million copies were shipped for the previous Resident Evil 5 title back in 2009.
Capcom expects the new title to sell over 7 million copies by March of 2013. That’s almost a million more copies than what Resident Evil 5 sold.
Off course shipping records don’t count for much unless you actually convert them to sales. Capcom has received much flak from users and reviewers for their different approach with Resident Evil 6. Many have compared the game to a boiling broth into which the developers threw in every ingredient they could find. Capcom defended their decision by saying they wanted a game which would appeal to fans of every Resident Evil title.
Resident Evil 6 was launched this week for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC; with three DLC packs planned.
