The sequel is called Skylanders Giants, and it will release for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, 3DS, Wii and Wii U later this year. Following the original title the sequel will also be bringing a brand new line-up of toys.
In the sequel, ancient beings called Giants who were dormant till now have woken up in order to save Skylands from a new threat. In total there are eight Giants where each is a unique character that comes with a unique set of abilities.
As with the original title, every Giant Skylander will come alive in the game when you place the collectible toy on the Portal of Power (a hardware accessory provided with the game). The great thing this time around is that the toys are going to be twice the size of their previous companions. To a previous Skylander collector, these new Giants would be a great addition because of the level of details noticeable on the bigger toy.
The more toys you buy mean more in-game characters for you. In itself, Skylanders Giants provide great gameplay value with looting, leveling up, skill trees and such which you can find in most dungeon crawlers.
Another very awesome thing about the game is that you save your progress in the toy itself. So if you take your collectible to a friend’s house, all you have to do is place it on the portal and continue from where you left off. It does not matter on what platform, he is playing the game.
Here’s a short look into some of the eight Giants that will be released with the game.
He started out as a recognized All-Star Roboto Ball player and later ended up as a security-bot in the Crystal Mines. There he used his Roboto Ball skills to defeat the Arkeyan King who had enslaved dozens of Mabu from his his Roboto Ball fan club. Soon after he teamed up with other Giants, and together they became the first Skylanders.
Carrying a huge hammer, Crusher’s true passion lies in crushing rocks. He likes to travel far and wide in search of rare minerals which he then hammers down. Along his travels, he discovered that the evil Arkeyan King was also searching for rocks to melt down into weapons of war. This was unacceptable for him and hence, he decided to go against the the King.
Once a prince of an insect warriors race, he was never allowed to leave the hive. However, the magic inside the giant hive affected him to grow much larger in size. Soon he was unable to fit in his colony and finally stepped out into the open world.
Before his involvement in the great battle, Tree Rex was a majestic tree living peacefully in the ancient woods. But all this came to an end when the Arkeyans built a nearby factory to produce war machines. After years of his soil being poisoned by the magic and tech waste from the factory, he mutated into who he is now – a powerful Giant who will crush anything that threatens the natural order of things.
I’ll update this list as soon as I get more information on the other Giants.
