There’s a new Pokemon game coming for the Nintendo 3DS. No, it’s not the next big RPG in the series, unfortunately, but it’s still worth getting excited about. Apparently the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series is coming back. Nintendo announced a 3DS sequel for the series via Japan’s CoroCoro magazine, and its title translates roughly as “Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Magnagate and the Infinite Labyrinth.”
The premise in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games is that you’re a normal person who’s somehow been turned into a Pokemon. Some of the Pokemon that will be in the game are Oshawott, Axew, Snivy, Tepig, Gurdurr, Hydreigon, Virizion and, of course, Pikachu. The starter Pokemon will be Snivy, Oshawott, Tepig, Pikachu and Axew.
The “Magnagate” mentioned in the subtitle refers to a type of portal in the game that teleports your Pokemon team into dungeons – you can create new Magnagates by using an included Alternate Reality feature and scanning things. It is not clear yet what it is, exactly, that we’ll be scanning.
The game drops in Japan sometime this year, so for US citizens that probably means sometime in 2013.
