Assassin’s Creed 3 Devs Believe Easy Game Modes Destroy Games
Yesterday, the director of Dark Souls talked about a possible easy game mode for his game. This thought was invoked once he learned that many players were hesitant to play the game because of it’s notorious difficulty level. An easy mode would end that alienation and get them playing the game.
Alex Hutchinson, the lead designer of Assassin’s Creed 3 however thinks that an easy mode ruins the game. He further said that an easy mode is the worst possible version of a game.
A lot of games have been ruined by easy modes. If you have a cover shooter and you switch it to easy and you don’t have to use cover, you kind of broke your game.
It’s like if I picked up a book and it said, ‘Do you want the easy version or the complicated version?’ (Game designers) can simplify the language, you know; we can make it two syllables.
After all that talk one would believe that Assassin’s Creed 3 would be harder than it’s previous titles. To end this speculation, lead gameplay designer Steven Masters clarified that the game will not be too challenging.
We’re not trying to make a brutally difficult game, so we go through all the playtest data and make sure it works.
Assassin’s Creed 3 releases this fall for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
