The fears that Prey 2 was cancelled have been dispelled. It was thought cancelled earlier today after Pete Hines from Bethesda told IGN:
I can be very clear about this.
At one point, we looked at Prey 2 and decided that in its current state, with all the money, time, and resources we put into it, it didn’t meet our expectations. So we decided to pull the plug from our end.
It’s a statement that seems pretty final at first look. Once someone mentions pulling the plug, you’d not be wrong to think that they meant the project was dead.
However, Bethesda are on damage control. They just released a statement to reassure fans that Prey 2 wasn’t completely dead after all.
“Development of Prey 2 has not been cancelled but the game will not be released in 2012 as planned. The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards. Prey 2 has shown great promise and we regret disappointing our fans.
We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want. We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule.
Bethesda did remove Prey 2 from their upcoming game list just a few weeks ago, which had many expectant fans all afluster, but Bethesda denied any rumours that the game was cancelled.
