We reported a few months back that the frame rate issues faced in certain sections of Dark Souls in the console version will be ported to PC version as they are due to the desire of the developers to ship the game out as soon as possible.
Naturally, PC gamers were not all to please to hear this bit of news. Likewise, when NeoGaf user Durante heard the Dark Souls PC port had a fixed rendering resolution of 1024×720, they couldn’t believe it, but when it turned out to be true, they “vowed to do [their] best to fix it.”
That’s just what Durante has done with their unofficial mod. It works by intercepting “the game’s calls to the DirectX 9 API and changes them as necessary to enable a higher internal rendering resolution.”
Durante has also posted instructions on how you can install the mod, but he also has warned that it has only been tested on their computer, and they “cannot and will not guarantee that it will work for anyone else, or not have any adverse effect on your game/computer. Use at your own risk!”
The mod is still work in progress, but it has fixed some issues.
You can download the mod here. Furthermore, here is the latest trailer From Software has released celebrating the release of the PC port of the game.
