One can estimate the hype of a game through the number of pre-orders of that title. And considering the numbers, the highly anticipated Borderlands 2 seems to be quite a fruitful product for Take 2 Interactive. According to CEO Strauss Zelnick, during Take 2’s Q1 2013 earnings call:
Early consumer enthusiasm suggests robust demand for our extraordinary lineup of upcoming releases, particularly Borderlands 2, NBA 2K13 and BioShock Infinite. We continue to expect fiscal 2013 to be one of the best years in Take-Two’s history.
While asked about Borderlands 2, he said:
Pre-orders are currently the third highest of any title in Take-Two’s history, behind only Grand Theft Auto 4 and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
This means that the pre-order count of Borderlands is more than that of GTA 3 and GTA: Vice City. Although, the publisher hasn’t enjoyed a good year business wise, 2013 with the titles like Borderlands 2 and GTA V (the date still hasn’t been confirmed yet), Take-two is confident to cover all the previous loses.
