Although EA didn’t say the magic words, it was pretty clear that they are now considering of going Free-To-Play with their Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO title.
While talking to CNBC, CEO John Riccitiello mentioned that EA was looking into different models to increase their user count.
Our conclusion was we had a great product in Star Wars, but that the subscription model in the world of free-to-play was challenging.
Star Wars: The Old Republic recently started offering extended free trials which allows players to level up to 15. Many are calling it the first step to completely going free-to-play.
Also considering the fact that the game is loosing subscribers by the thousands and the recent layoffs at Bioware, Free-To-Play might be there only option to get back the players.
