Rockstar Closing Vancouver Studio, but Opens New Toronto One

Rockstar has announced that they’ll be closing down Rockstar Vancouver and will be offering the 35-man staff the opportunity to work at Rockstar’s other studios.

Speaking of other studios, Rockstar is expanding its Toronto studio in Oakville, Ontario. The studio is being supported by the Ontario government, though financial deals have not been disclosed.

Rockstar Vancouver has worked on Bully and Max Payne 3, while Rockstar Toronto has worked on titles such as the Grand Theft Auto franchise, Max Payne 3, and The Warriors.

Jennifer Kolbe, VP of publishing had this to say.

Expanding Rockstar Toronto and bringing our Canadian development talent together under one roof underscores our commitment to building world-class teams that can make the kind of groundbreaking entertainment experiences Rockstar Games is known for…e believe a single Canadian team will make for a powerful creative force on future projects.

We plan to add more than 50 new positions to our combined Canadian team, and are pleased to be entering into this strategic partnership with the Ontario government.

Hopefully, all 35 people in Rockstar Vancouver can transition into Rockstar Toronto, no?
