Today THQ released a mysterious new website that shows a timer slowly ticking its way down, with zero falling on Thursday May 24th. The site is called “Enter The Metro” and it is part of the marketing campaign for Metro: Last Light, THQ’s sequel to their Russian post-apocalyptic game Metro: 2033.
The site has little other content aside from social media links to Last Light’s Facebook, Twitter and Youtube pages, but it does say that it will host the world premier of a live-action short film set in the Metro universe.
This sort of tie-in movie has been used with mixed results in the past, but just recently gamers saw some high-quality movie-making in Ghost Recon Alpha which was released to help promote the upcoming game Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.
Nothing is known yet about the film, but the Metro series is set in the future after nuclear armageddon has destroyed Moscow, forcing the survivors to build a new society inside that city’s subway system.
Metro Last Light is being developed by 4A games, the developer of Metro 2033 and, although initially scheduled for a summer 2012 release, it was was recently delayed to 2013.
The short film arrives next week, but in the meantime, apocalypse fans can keep track of the countdown at EnterTheMetro.
