World of Warcraft Subscribers Stand Firm at 10.2 Million

During Activision-Blizzard’s earnings call, Mike Morhaime, Blizzard CEO, has revealed that World of Warcraft’s current active player-base is at a very impressive 10.2 million as of March 31 of this year.

This is good news for Blizzard since it’s been widely speculated and seen in data that WoW has been losing steam as of late. Morhaime is also confident that WoW’s upcoming expansion — Mists of Pandaria — will do well for current subscribers to keep them hooked with new dungeons, quests and gear.

That 10.2 million number looks even prettier especially when you compare it to EA’s 1.3 million subscriber-base for Star Wars: The Old Republic — but then again, The Old Republic is a new title and as they say, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”

We’ll know for sure how the MMORPG landscape will be once Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls Online is released next year. I suspect who will jump to which MMORPG will be quite a heated discussion in 2013.
