We’re approaching rumor territory once again, folks, and this time, it’s bad news. According to a “source familiar with the situation,” apparently, Platinum Games’ work on Bayonetta 2 has been put on indefinite hold — which, by videogame terms means it’s cancelled.
The game was supposed to include a new character in the form of a US military personnel. Other than that, no other details has been shared and it’s not known how far along Platinum Games is at the game’s lifecycle.
Bayonetta, which was released on 2010 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, was met with positive reviews but didn’t exactly light the retail charts on fire. The game was the brainchild of Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya and it showed…the game’s combat was top-notch and was even more over-the-top than the DMC series.
When pressed for answers, SEGA gave a standard “no comment.” Sadly, when companies give that response, it’s usually because the rumor indeed has some meat into it.
We’ll report back with news as it develops.
