Just last night we reported that Ubisoft has registered the domain names associated with Rayman Legends and now we know why. It seems that the game isn’t just real, but it’s already running — and on the Wii U, at that!
The game, which can be confirmed now that it’s also coming out for the Wii U, will introduce new playable characters, online play and even social features! Now, that’s all well and good, but what makes the trailer even more awesome is that we can see how the Wii U’s upcoming tablet controller will interact with the game!
The trailer shows four friends presumably playing Rayman Legends simultaneously, and while the others are using the Wii remotes, another person is using the Wii tablet as a game monitor. The player then controls the game via a touch interface — but that’s not all there is to it.
In another scene, we see a woman get a heart-shaped stuffed toy and put it on the Wii U tablet controller, what happens next is nothing short of magical; as the heart-shaped toy manifests itself onto the game itself! Also of note is that another player takes a character from Rayman Raving Rabbids and again, places it on the tablet controller to make it appear into the game itself.
The trailer ends with the player taking an Ezio action figure and well, you can guess what happens next.
Mind you, while this technology isn’t exactly new (Activision’s Skylanders franchise is doing this now), it’s still an exciting prospect.
Can we expect all of Ubisoft’s games to interlope with one another? Hopefully, other publishers follow suit with this ingenious idea.
What do you think? Is this the future of next-gen? Let us know in the comments.
