After seeing the footage, it’s really, really hard to not compare the game to Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. franchise. It has the same premise, same UI and well, you get the gist. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t look good, however.
According to SuperBot Entertainment president Chan Park, the game will contain “nearly two decades of characters, worlds, and themes from the PlayStation universe.”
In terms of gameplay, while details are quite scarce at the moment, it has been revealed that there will be three levels of “Supers” for each character. They gave God of War protagonist Kratos as an example.
His level 1 super is a sword slash attack that impacts combatants within the immediate vicinity, while his level 2 super will be Kratos slamming his sword into the ground and launching a cyclone that deals damage to enemies both near and above him; lastly, Kratos’ level 3 super will allow the character to don the Ares Armor and acquire a whole new move set for a limited time.
Regarding the game’s stages, it seems they’re plucking from a variety of franchises. There’s a stage from LittleBigPlanet, Patapon and Sony’s quiz game Buzz!
Also of note is that SuperBot is not ruling out third-party characters as “guests” for the game. In fact, SuperBot states that “third party is a huge part of PlayStation and we’re definitely going to feature some of those characters in our game.”
The character list hasn’t been fully revealed yet, but it has been confirmed that Kratos, Sweet Tooth, PaRappa the Rapper, Sly Cooper and Radec from Killzone will make an appearance.
Expect more details to be unveiled at this year’s E3 and the game is slated for release later this year exclusively for the PS3.
