EA Looking to “Acquire” More Studios

Electronic Arts is looking to acquire (buy) more established studios.

This news has been revealed in the publisher’s latest entry into its “Breaking into the Industry” blog series. When Carolyn Rohde, EA’s corporate development associate was asked if EA was actively seeking the market “to see who’s for sale,” she answered with a de-facto, “Yes, Definitely.”

If we’re interested in moving into a particular genre of gaming, or bolstering our presence in a certain area, then we’ll look at the market landscape to see who’s performing the best and who, of those companies, is a good strategic and financial fit for EA…Then we determine whether an acquisition makes sense.

While this isn’t really that big of a surprise, since EA is known to buy a studio or two if they’re “established” enough (BioWare, PopCap Games), it’s good to hear that the publisher is not resting on its laurels when it comes to investing for game developers.

If given the chance, who would you want to see EA acquire next?
