Halo 4’s Spartan Ops Co-Op Mode Will be Story-Driven “Mini-Campaigns”

While Halo 4 is sure to sell boatloads once it’s out, that hasn’t stopped the franchise’s new developer — 343 Industries — from adding new things to the series.

One of these things is a new co-op mode called Spartan Ops. This new mode will be feature cooperative play, but it won’t rely on the now-standard Horde mode; instead it will be a “narrative-driven multiplayer experience.”

This detail has been shared by 343 Industries creative director Josh Holmes and lead designer for Spartan Ops Chris Haluke, who also added that Sparton Ops will be an episodic, mini-campaign of its own “working working its way from an overarching linear story brought down into episodes and from there individual missions.”

The duo also revealed that they’re targeting Spartan Ops to be ” a weekly episode” that will contain five missions that are tied into that episode.

Players who are also into Halo’s competitive multiplayer might want to give the mode a look too; as the rewards and unlocks that users earn in Spartan Ops will carry over to Halo 4’s competitive multiplayer.

Halo 4 will be out this Nov. 6 exclusively for the Xbox 360.
