Sony, Microsoft to Block New York Sex Offenders from Going Online

In news that’s kind of creepy – yet warranted, the state of New York has just started “Operation: Game Over.” This initiative was formed to protect children from sexual predators in online games.

Participants of said initiative includes: Sony, Microsoft, Apple, Warner Bros, Electronic Arts, Blizzard Entertainment and Disney Interactive Media Group. The publishers mentioned have already purged 3,580 accounts of New York registered sex offenders from their online platforms and games.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman had this to say regarding the matter.

We must ensure online video game systems do not become a digital playground for dangerous predators…That means doing everything possible to block sex offenders from using gaming networks as a vehicle to prey on underage victims.

While the cause they’re fighting for certainly warrants applause, can’t the sex offenders, y’know, just make new gaming accounts? In any case, we hope this movement will work it’s way up to the rest of the state – and the world.
