While Blizzard hasn’t officially confirmed that Diablo III will be making its way onto consoles, it’s something that’s been gaining steam throughout the year – and chances are, this “rumor” won’t be stopping anytime soon.
In saying that, Blizzard wants to re-affirm to fans that if indeed the game does make its way onto consoles, it won’t be a hack job.
According to Blizzard COO Paul Sams, they’re continuing to “explore” Diablo III on consoles, but if they do release it, it will be polished and will also offer a “true” Blizzard-level experience on a console.
We’re continuing to explore [Diablo III on consoles], we think that the way we built it for the PC may need some tweaking, but it will ultimately be the type of game that can really make sense and be really fun, well polished and a true Blizzard-level experience on a console.
Sams also revealed that they’re not merely thinking of porting the game just for financial gain. The most important factor for them is gameplay and whether the game will be fun even its ported.
We get a lot of questions about why we haven’t made a game for consoles before and I tell them the same thing I tell them about business models: we don’t let business models or platforms drive our decisions. Those are secondary to what’s the most important aspect for us which is the gameplay…We have to make sure the game is great and it’s something that everyone wants to play. If we provide a great game, a great experience, the business model – if we’re being fair with you – will work.
Keep in mind he’s not outright confirming Diablo III for consoles but based on what he’s saying, I’d say the chances of the game appearing on the PS3 and Xbox 360 are looking very good at the moment.
Would you play Diablo III if it was released on consoles or does the franchise need to stay on PC?
