3DS Fastest System to Sell Five Million Units

Nintendo’s 3DS was first released to lukewarm affair, but after a price drop and whatnot, it seems things are going very, very well with their handheld now.

Nintendo has just revealed that the 3DS has reached over five million units sold in Japanese sales. The 3DS crossed this mark 52 weeks after February 26, 2011. This sets a new record for Japanese hardware sales. The previous record holder was also another Nintendo handheld, the DS, which needed 56 weeks and the Game Boy Advance which needed 58 weeks.

The data announced by Nintendo is actual units that has been sold from retailers to customers and not just shipped.
