If you’re not familiar with Blizzard mod DOTA, chances are you haven’t even seen a videogame in your life. The Warcraft III mod is easily one of the most famous mods ever – to the point that Valve, the makers of Half-Life, even took it for their own.
Now, it looks like the heat is turning up a notch. Based on a filing from the USPTO, Blizzard is now suing Valve for using the name DOTA. Valve, of course, is undertaking a beta for their own tower-defense game called DOTA 2. Blizzard themselves will be releasing their own official sequel to the mod titled Blizzard DOTA.
DOTA stands for Defense of the Ancients and is based on Warcraft III and its heroes in the game. It’s one of the most played games online all around the world.
Who are you siding with in this heavyweight bout? Should Valve not have trademarked the name or should Blizzard thought sensibly and trademarked it ages ago?
