The developer has already been heavily rumored to be developing the game, their site said, “We are in production on an unannounced high-profile, popular game sequel for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC release.” Now it looks like more evidence has come to light and it’s more concrete.
On Spark Unlimited’s website, it states there that the developer is looking for a “Senior Combat Designer,” and states, “Spark is looking for a senior combat designer for a 3rd Person Action/Adventure sequel in a high-profile science fiction franchise currently greenlit for full production development for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC markets.”
Now, high-profile science fiction franchise could mean other things besides Star Wars but there’s also the LinkdIn profile of John Lawrie, a Senior Software Engineer who used to work for Spark Unlimited and lists his work for the developer as:
Unannounced third person sword fighting game (well known IP, Xbox 360, PS3)
Speculation is that the “sword” means Star Wars‘ infamous lightsaber; and another Spark Developer developer’s LinkdIn profile also confirms it’s a shooter as well, “I have been working for three years in a AAA third person shooter using Unreal Engine and Kynapse AI middleware.”
If that wasn’t enough, Spark Unlimited’s twitteradds in, “Since we are working on a sequel for a well known sci-fi franchise, all aspects must remain secret.”
While this is still pretty much treated as a rumor for now, the evidence heavily suggests that a new Battlefront game is in the works and it’s being made by Spark Unlimited.
For reference, the last Battlefront game was six years ago, and most people consider it the best use of the Star Wars license in a videogame so far.
