Soulcalibur V – Patroklos Alexandria

Description: The son of Sophitia, Patroklos is the new protagonist in SoulCalibur V. Like the rest of the Alexandria family, Patro uses the iconic sword and shield combination.

Patroklos has been on a journey to find his long-lost sister Pyrrha, and encounters her in SoulCalibur V. What follows afterwards is way too cool and spoiler-filled to be written down here. Patroklos has also been seeking to kill all the Malfested he can find in the world. Good boy.

General Tips for Patroklos Players

He’s got the moves, he’s got the looks, and girls love him. What more could you ask from a SoulCalibur male character? How about speed and power? Well, he’s got that too.

Patroklos is a top tier character, perhaps not as deadly as his elder sister Pyrrha, but almost equally effective. He’s a touch slower than Pyrrha and his mother, but he compensates that with additional punch.

Patro-boy’s a more vertical-oriented character. Most of his horizontals are ‘meh’, apart from the simple few mentioned above, such as 1 A, 8 A, and 6 A. So, you’ll be doing most of your damage with verticals and kicks, and Patro excels at both.

He has an ample amount of good verticals. 6 B, B, B is a great grounding combo – use it when you know you have enough time to. Make sure to use the Brave Edge Reckoning Saint whenever you can – it’s your go to move. Otherwise, you can take a look at the above move list and really figure out the obvious and effective verticals.

When it comes to Kicks, Patro once again shines. He’s got quite a few kicks, but out of the many you’ll find 6 K and 3 K K most useful. 8 K is fairly useful as it slams down the enemy, but make sure you have enough time to land it when you plan to. Same goes for K A.

Then come the simultaneous presses and 8-way runs. The simultaneous presses are self-explanatory – it’s the 8-way runs that really need to be looked at. Patroklos’s 8-way run moves are one of his strong points, so expect yourself to be sprinting about. 6 6 A is a very powerful move, and when used as a Brave Edge it is a Break Attack.

Similarly, 2 2 or 8 8 A A is a great move that spins enemies into the air and slams them back on the ground. Ouch. Additionally, the second hit can become a Break Attack if you hold down A. Sweet stuff.

Ask me and I’d say Patroklos is a really good character when it comes to learnability, speed and power. His down side? Well, perhaps the attack rate and range, but that’s something all these Alexandrians face, don’t they.

Counter-character(s) for Patroklos

Unlike Pyrrha, the players that will really do well against Patro are the ones that can deal out damage quick while keeping a decent distance. That means anyone like Misturugi, Voldo and Ivy will really do some damage, and of course, how can I ever forget Natsu.

Once again remember, Patroklos isn’t Pyrrha, so don’t expect yourself to being so much damage so quickly against such quick damage dealers.
