Following recent reports of THQ warned of being de-listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange, word comes from industry figure Kevin Dent that THQ will announce 170 layoffs tomorrow morning and that he’s been sitting on this news for “a week or so.”
Dent, who earlier this month also tweeted that THQ’s whole 2014 lineup has been canned to make it more attractive for potential buyers also communicated publicly (via twitter) with THQ’s VP of technology Mark DeLoura – heavily suggesting that this might not be just a rumor.
This is probably going to break in the morning, I have sat on it for a week or so. The culling at THQ was 170+ souls including Mark DeLoura
This tweet was directed at DeLoura who didn’t deny the accusation other than with a, “Hey, that’s cheating” – complete with a smiley face for added effect.
If true, this report has not implicated which studios or franchises will be affected by the layoffs. One thing’s for sure though, things aren’t rosy at THQ and this might just be the beginning.
As of press time, THQ has yet to issue a statement regarding the report. We’ll have more on this as the situation develops.
