As has been expected since last year, Sony Corp. has officially promoted Kazuo Hirai, the former boss of the PlayStation brand, to be the company’s next CEO and President. Sony’s current boss, Sir Howard Stringer, will remain within the company as an executive chairman until his departure in June.
Hirai will officially step into his new position in April.
Sony hopes that Hirai will be able to turn the company’s fortune around, as he did for their once-unprofitable videogame label. Hirai, is of course, known as the “face” of the PlayStation brand for Sony in recent years – though it’s now uncertain if he will still make his annual appearance at Sony’s E3 pressers.
Congratulations, Kaz, and we wish you the best of luck!
