Skyrim deserves a huge applause at it has officially become the fastest selling game ever on Steam, and has sold over 10 million copies already. Not bad! Bethesda should be proud of their work, as even though the game is mauled with bugs and other issues, it has attracted so many gamers in so little time.
Skyrim is the fastest selling title in Steam’s history” said Jason Holtman, Director of Business Development at Valve Corporation. “Bethesda’s commitment to and understanding of the PC as a gaming platform shows in the great review scores, spectacular launch, and continued high player numbers that Skyrim has received. We are delighted that Bethesda chose to use Steamworks to support Skyrim both at retail and digitally.
According to a press release by Bethesda yesterday, the PC version of Skyrim in North America outsold all other PC games by a factor of over three to one in the month of its release. Also, according to Raptor, Skyrim is the ‘most played game of 2011’.
Skyrim has also earned ‘Game of the Year’ awards from major outlets across the world, and the ‘Game of the Year’ award at the 2011 Video Game Awards.
This isn’t the first time Bethesda has managed to achieve such a feat; they have previously received GoTY awards for Fallout 3 and the predecessor of Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Additionally, Bethesda has also been named the ‘Studio of the Year’ at the Video Game Awards for their phenomenal job on the game.
Good job Bethesda. Now, I’ve got to go and check how many more Skyrim soldiers have actually taken an arrow in their knee.
