Battlefield 3 Map Strategy Guide

Battlefield 3 fever is on and there are millions already playing its addictive multiplayer. If you have followed the Battlefield series then you would be familiar with the fact that Battlefield is not about run and gun or better K/D ratio.

It demands tactics to overshadow your opponent. Basic map awareness is an important part here. Maps are big enough that if you aren’t patrolling the right sections, you might not get to see any target making you wonder, “Where the hell is everyone?”

Squad based gameplay makes things easy but you still need to know about the nature and the obvious spots so that you don’t look like a fool on the battle arena.

Battlefield 3 Map Strategy – Caspian Border

The map was included in Beta with Conquest Mode. Those who were the part of BF3 beta would be quite familiar with this map. Based on the northern Iranian coast of the Caspian Sea, Caspian Border is a huge map where you need to learn the use of vehicles as on foot, you can be picked up easily by enemy fire or artillery.

The greenery in Caspian Border sometimes make it really difficult to spot enemies. With the prone feature back, you would never know that the tree at the far side had a machine gunner or a sniper waiting for someone to appear in his/her scope. That’s how Battlefield is. If you are not quick enough, you will die a lot.

The capture points are relatively close which makes it quite difficult to maintain or capture the objective. If you aren’t capturing or defending the point with some teammates around to cover your back, you will like a sitting duck waiting for being slaughtered.

Use Jets, Choppers or other heavy vehicles to control the concerned sections. PC players can enjoy the map to a better extent as 64 players in the same map looks like a war going on between two factions. Console players should shift to other maps if they find Caspian Border too large to fit in.

You can play the following modes in this map:

Battlefield 3 Map Strategy – Operation Metro

The map was there in beta so many out there would already know a lot about it. It can be divided into three main sections, the green field section, then the underground metro area leading to another wide urban streets section.

The map isn’t best suited for TDM but Rush mode is a good option. Conquest mode with 64 players feels great specially when your team is dominating the area.

Considering the symmetry of the map, any section of the map can be a hot zone specially in TDM when everyone is hungry for kills. Underground Metro channels usually have most of the encounters.

Running blindly though the underground passage will get you killed as players usually target the entry points for easy kills. Lack of vehicles makes this map less appealing.

You can play these game modes on this map:

  • Conquest (3 Flags, 350 Respawn Tickets)
  • Rush (4 Bases, 100 Respawn Tickets),Rush Zone 1,Rush Zone 2,Rush Zone 3,Rush Zone 4
  • Squad Rush (2 Bases),Squad Deathmatch,Team Deathmatch

Vehicles

  • There are no vehicles in this mode.

Battlefield 3 Map Strategy – Grand Bazaar

Just because Grand Bazaar is a small map doesn’t mean that it’s best suited for Team Deathmatch. It really isn’t specially when you are playing with a group of people who like to prone a specific place. But if you want to upgrade your weapons like shotguns or other short to medium ranged weapons, this is the map you should play on TDM.

Objective oriented game modes feel great on this map. There are plenty of vantage points for snipers in Grand Bazaar. So keep your eyes open for those windows and rooftops. Your agility will be tested depending upon the mode you are playing. The map is good unless some people try to disgrace the fun.

It is good for close quarter combat as it is situated in a marketplace where the atmosphere is dark and rainy. It can be used as an advantage for taking cover and avoid getting sighted.

The Assualt class can has lots of opportunities for healing the team mates and the support class can drop out ammo to help the squads. Work out your exit strategy will playing in this map.

There wont be any vehicles at your disposal so Engineer class wont be the best one tyoThe map feels like the fastest map in the game adding some extra fun to the game.

You can play these modes in this map:

  • Conquest (3 Flags, 250 Respawn Tickets),Conquest 64 (5 Flags)
  • Rush (4 Bases, 75 Respawn Tickets),Rush Zone 1,Rush Zone 2,Rush Zone 3,Rush Zone 4
  • Squad Rush (2 Bases),Squad Deathmatch,Team Deathmatch

Battlefield 3 Map Strategy – Tehran Highway

It’s the only nighttime map in Battlefield 3. Players start in the hills above the city and slowly, the Battle shifts to the narrow city sections of the map. The best thing to do in this map is to take a tank and patrol the streets.

Those on foot should avoid the open areas of the map to avoid being hit by the artillery. Thin Alleys are usually the sections wheren most of the infantry encounters occur in this map.

Controlling the tank will really make a difference. Either get there first or ready your RPGs to get rid of it quickly. Being a nighttime map, Tehran Highway encourages you to use the thermal scopes.

You can play these game modes on this map:

  • Conquest (3 Flags, 250 Respawn Tickets),Conquest 64 (4 Flags)
  • Rush (4 Bases, 75 Respawn Tickets),Rush Zone 1,Rush Zone 2,Rush Zone 3,Rush Zone 4

Battlefield 3 Map Strategy – Operation Firestorm

The map is set in the Tehran Oil fields. There are 5 control points and then the big oil refinery that serve as the main fighting zones of the map. Personally, i like the maps where there is no need to beat about the bush and one head straight towards the target.

The central refinery section is the place where you will find many enemy players trying to take control of the area. The map also encourages the use of jets. So if you are a good pilot, you can be a great troubling source for the opposing team.

There are some good places where you can defend the captured objectives. Snipers can take the rooftop of the factory while one can also take control of a tank and target the incoming resistance.

You can play these game modes on this map:

  • Conquest (3 Flags, 200 Respawn Tickets),Conquest (5 Flags)
  • Rush (3 Bases, 75 Respawn Tickets),Rush Zone 1,Rush Zone 2,Rush Zone 3

Battlefield 3 Map Strategy – Noshahr Canals

The map is centered around an industrial harbor in Iran. It’s a medium map suited for all types of game modes. Once can use the amphibious transport to get to the objective. Swimming is also an option but if someone spots you, you will be nothing more than a sitting a duck.

Snipers can be annoying around containers section as they can pick you up from the cranes. You can expect a mix of long-range shooting in the open sections of the map while close quarter combat inside the buildings. So sticking to a medium to long-range weapon would be a good choice here. If it’s a TDM and the map is full, shotguns can be a great fun in this map.

You can play these game modes on this map:

  • Conquest (3 Flags, 250 Respawn Tickets),Conquest 64 (5 Flags)
  • Rush (5 Bases, 75 Respawn Tickets),Rush Zone 1,Rush Zone 2,Rush Zone 3,Rush Zone 4,Rush Zone 5

Battlefield 3 Map Strategy – Damavand Peak

Damavand Peak is the highest peak in Iran. This hilly map, divided into various levels, may make you feel lost at the start but once you have the grip, you will list it as one of the best in the game. There are no Jets but Helicopter transport can come handy.

The objectives are in the facilities and for each objective, players need to base jump off to the next facility which is something unique in this map.

Map’s tunnels section with some corridors along is the place where things are more intensive. Close quarter weapons really come handy in this last section of the map.

Availability of tank here makes things difficult for the defenders. It’s always a wise choice to take out the heavy vehicles first to avoid the continuous damage.

You can play following game modes in this map:

  • Conquest (3 Flags, 250 Respawn Tickets),Conquest 64 (5 Flags)
  • Rush (5 Bases, 75 Respawn Tickets),Rush Zone 1,Rush Zone 2,Rush Zone 3,Rush Zone 4,Rush Zone 5
  • Squad Rush (2 Bases),Squad Deathmatch,Team Deathmatch

Battlefield 3 Map Strategy – Seine Crossing

It’s another map set in Paris, France (other being Operation Metro). There are two large section divided by River Seine. Once can use vehicles to navigate the open areas of the map.

There is nothing special about the map which actually encourages Call of Duty style gameplay. I don’t mind it but as long as it is in Battlefield (known for diverse nature of maps), Seine Crossing falls on the casual line. If you always want someone you can shoot in front of you than the tight sections of this map will serve your wish.

Team Deathmatch can be spoiled by the campers who target the spawn points and most often, you end up being the victim right after you take a couple of steps from your spawn. The concept of tactical shooting is missing for the most part.

You can play these game modes on this map:

  • Conquest (4 Flags, 250 Respawn Tickets),Conquest 64 (5 Flags)
  • Rush (4 Bases, 75 Respawn Tickets),Rush Zone 1,Rush Zone 2,Rush Zone 3,Rush Zone 4
  • Squad Rush (2 Bases),Squad Deathmatch,Team Deathmatch

Vehicles

  • M1 ABRAMS
  • T-90A

Battlefield 3 Map Strategy – Kharg Island

Kharg Island is an important area for oil transport and oil pipelines which is just off the coast of Iran. It’s a pretty big map and there is plenty to enjoy; specially when you are playing Rush mode and there are 64 people battling for the victory.

One team has to defend the beach area while other attacks to take over the control. Attackers can use the amphibious transport to get to the beach and use all sort of vehicle support to execute the attack. If you are on foot, you should try to avoid the main highway section of the map which usually gets targetted by jets, tanks or choppers.

Like all other Battlefield 3 maps, team play is important. If the attacking team can land on shore as a unit, you can destroy the first M-COM stations without loosing many tickets.

On the other hand, the defending team should cover all the possible entry and flank points to make life difficult for the opponents. Camping a particular spot for longer periods won’t help the main objective regardless of the faction you are in.

You can play these game modes on this map:

  • Conquest (4 Flags, 200 Respawn Tickets),Conquest 64 (5 Flags)
  • Rush (4 Bases, 75 Respawn Tickets),Rush Zone 1,Rush Zone 2,Rush Zone 3,Rush Zone 4
  • Squad Rush (2 Bases),Squad Deathmatch,Team Deathmatch
