Dragon Quest X May Not Be Entirely Free To Play

The re-revelation of Dragon Quest and a fresh trailer aren’t the only new news regarding the game, as Square Enix as also hinted that the online multiplayer-focused game for the Wii and Wii U may not be free-to-play, but might have a fee.

Yes, you read right – the game may have an MMO-like usage fee, which isn’t news that would get many excited. The newly launched Dragon Quest X website lists spaces for both the price of the game and its usage fee. Both are to-be-announced for now, but it is nevertheless a clear sign that Square Enix plans to apply usage fees.

There is, of course, the possibility that the usage fee may be exclusive to Japan, and may not apply to the North American and European version of the game, as was the case with Monster Hunter Tri. Nevertheless the possibility of fees leaves pairs of drooping shoulders.

Dragon Quest X still has a lot of time before it is launched, so it may be a while before we hear anything regarding fees, particularly for the western regions.
