2k Games’ Jordan Thomas has released an E3 playthrough demonstration of XCOM. The playthrough demo was released yesterday when Jordan posted on the official 2k Games blog about the development of XCOM over the past entire year.

XCOM is an origin story in its own timeline, and is line with stuff like Battlestar: Galactica and Batman Begins, according to Thomas. The game is set in 1962 within the continental United States, during the time the moment the XCOM organization is formed.

The aim of the game is to tell the story through a perspective of a man called William Carter, Special Agent in Charge of field operations at XCOM. Carter fears that the events occurring throughout the region are related to the Cold War, eventually figuring out that it is an extraterrestrial invasion.
