Why Has THQ Shutdown Kaos Studios?


It came as a surprise that THQ has shutdown Homefront’s developer, Kaos Studios. First thing that came to my mind after getting this news was the average performance of Homefront.

To be honest, the game was good and it’s multiplayer after some patches became pretty descent. So this point should be logically ruled out. What other factors can be involved related to this move by THQ? May be the expenses were not affordable by THQ? probably yes or it can be some internal affairs that THQ does not want to reveal to the public as none of higher officials have commented on this move yet. But we know:

The Montreal studio will take over product development and overall creative management for the Homefront franchise. The Montreal studio actively collaborated with Kaos on Homefront.

So the head staff will continue their jobs in Montreal. Rest will have to search for something else or they might have already. One of THQ’s officials hinted the dependency and the future of Kaos Studios on Homefront’s progress.

I tell them the more successful a game is, the better the economics are for the franchise, and that will help to influence what we do. So we haven’t made any decisions at the moment. That’s the truth. We’re going to look at how it goes. We don’t want to relocate people just to relocate people.
