By   /   May 21, 2011

Madden NFL 12 is sequel to hugely popular game based on the National Football League. It is being developed by EA Tiburon and will be published by EA Sports.

Let’s take a look at some of the new features introduced and what has improved from the last game.

Surprise Onside Kick
Players can now attempt to catch their opponents off-guard with an onside kick from a standard kickoff formation.

Tuner Sets
A feature implemented previously in other EA Sports titles such as NCAA Football 11. Tuner Sets allow the developers to make adjustments to significant portions of the gameplay code without the need for an approved and official patch to be distributed by console manufacturers.

All-New Collision System
Now maintain full control of players up to the point of impact – from tackling to blocking – providing the most authentic collisions in franchise history. This new system uses a player’s momentum and over 100 new tackle animations, including 40 gang tackles, to provide more impact hits, stolen tackles, and consecutive hit tackling.

Note. To support awareness for concussions, players who have a concussion will no longer be allowed to return to the game.

Advanced Defensive AI
Over 100 defensive A.I. enhancements resulting in the smartest Madden defense ever. Players in zone and man coverage will properly recognize and react to plays, including the ability to break out of assignments when appropriate, resulting in a defensive team that truly works together.

Custom Playbooks
The #1 most requested feature by fans in recent years, allows you to build the ultimate game plan by modifying an existing playbook or creating your own by selecting up to 400 offensive or defensive plays from 75 different playbooks.

Integrate your custom playbook into a game plan for use with the improved GameFlow system, which executes an authentic, situational game plan for you.

Broadcast Redefined
Experience NFL Sundays like never before with completely overhauled presentation, including 32 team-specific run outs featuring mascots and cheerleaders, over 500 dynamic broadcast cameras authentic to every NFL stadium, innovative “real” on-field cameras shot by expert NFL Films cameramen, and a network inspired new broadcast graphics package.

Unprecedented On-Field Authenticity
Hundreds of visual improvements across all areas of the game including: new player equipment, helmet stickers, pylon and ball physics, a player degradation system that affects uniforms and helmets based on weather and field surface, 3D grass, and new player specific animations that showcase the personalities of each NFL player.

A new franchise mode has been added which helps a player become either a great quarterback or a Runner. The franchise mode will include:

Dynamic Player Performance
Player ratings fluctuate based on consistency and confidence
Player Roles: More than 20 roles affect player and team stats throughout the season

Free Agent Bidding Wars
eBay style bidding against other GMs creates intense, rapid-fire free agent period that takes only a few minutes to complete

The Pre-Season Matters
Start with 75-player roster and need to make cuts each week. Playing pre-season games reveals player ratings.

Scouting Reworked
Tiered scouting system reveals ratings tied to different events (college season, combine, pro day, individual workout).

Draft Class Improvements
Robust set of draftees built for 30 seasons of franchise. Teams draft based on their real tendencies.

Coaches Matter
Coaches have small positive and negative impact on how players perform on the field based on their style.

Smarter General Managers
Better re-sign and cut logic. GMs make trades and sign free agents who fit their needs, with player roles factored in.

Change Teams
In any off season, change control of which teams you run in Franchise mode.

Edit Any Player
Alter the ratings of any player – rookie, created player, or established veteran.

Numerous Tweaks
Many other small tuning and additions are coming including retirement logic, a more accurate salary system, fixes to the injured reserve system, better simulation stats, and more.

EA hasn’t revealed anything about the online-play yet, but we are told they are working on something big. Madden has done some good things with gameplay in the past couple of years, but has done a very poor job when it comes to adding and improving its features. Looks like that’s changing with Madden NFL 12.
