The Cursed Crusade will feature an engaging storyline in a realistic setting of Old World western Europe. Players will take on the role of Denz, a holy Templar, with roguish mercenary Esteban playable as a co-op character. Atlus says the duo are trying to “find the means to deliver themselves from a terrible curse that threatens to consume their immortal souls.”
Still licking their wounds from the losses of the Third Crusade led by Richard, the Lionheart King, Pope Innocent III succeeds the Papacy. His first order of business is to sound the call for another invasion of Jerusalem.
The Templars have borne the curse through the generations, passing it down to their sons. Those who activate the curse are the only ones who see the world turn to Hell. To all others, it would seem only that their opponent is quicker, stronger, and more capable…Activating the Templar’s Curse puts the power of Hell at the player’s disposal.
Increasing agility and power, as well as granting new abilities beyond mortal men, it is a power to be reckoned with. But at the cost of the character’s life, and with Death lurking in the shadows, the player must use it wisely.
While in the curse, the souls of the damned and lost become visible. Purifying them and sending them to their final rest may yield benefits to those who seek redemption for their deeds. I’m thinking Demon’s Souls fans truly have something new to look forward to from Atlus in 2011.
The Cursed Crusade will be released on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC in July 26, 2011 in North America, with the European version will also be released around the same time frame.
