EA CEO John Riccitiello again have come out to make a bold statement. While presenting the quarterly results of the company, Riccitiello reiterated EA’s desire to get hold of the FPS genre throne and complemented DICE, Battlefield 3 and Frostbite Engine 2.0.
“We know we have a great competitor. But in head-to-head race with Call of Duty in the third quarter, we have the superior engine, the superior development studio and easily the superior game.”
EA wants significant share of the shooter market and wants to force the other studios in persecutor role. Judging by the pre-orders of Battlefield 3, DICE lies well ahead in the race with the game receiving 700% more pre-orders compared to the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 in the comparable period.
The reputation of DICE and Battlefield series among the players have played an important role in achieving such a milestone and EA has replied back with an intelligent marketing strategy by announcing the Limited Edition Free Upgrade to anyone who pre-orders the game.
The Limited Edition features a free »Back to Karkand” DLC which includes classic Battlefield 2 maps Wake Iceland, Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman and Sharqi Peninsula as well as additional weapons and vehicles.
All these statements are coming from EA barracks while guys at Activision are liptight. Will Battlefield 3 live up to its expectations ? time will tell.
