Primary reason behind Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta is to allow players to check the core gameplay mechanics so the developer can tweak the gameplay according to the feedback.
If you are new to the series or a casual fan then there are chances you would easily get pawned but we are here to make sure this doesn’t happen. You will find everything you need to know with tips and tricks in the Gears of War 3 Beta Guide that follows.
If you want to go for the offensive then your mobility will matter a lot as you will have to move fast using the shotgun to get to the enemies first before they can take you out from distance. In contrast, if you want to adopt more cautious approach then you should get your hand set with assault rifles. In the latter approach, there are chances of being overrun by the rushers but if you are well aware of the map then you can pick them before they can reach you.
Weapon selection can affect your game and it largely depends on the map and your game style. If the map is not large and the hot zones indulge players into short range shooting, then guns like Sawed-off and Retro Lancer can be effective while in maps where long to medium range fights are abundant, you can use the Lancer rifle or Hammerburst.
With the addition of Tac/Com mode, you no longer need to remember maps completely as activating this mode will show you each of your teammate location as well as the locations for guns. Moreover you can always pause the game and analyze from the overview of the map.
While you are captured by the enemy forces, you should not feel helpless as you can still tag enemies to let your teammates know about them. This improves the team chemistry as priority targets are set by you.
Smoke grenades can be used to stun the enemies for sometime. As they won’t be able to see anything, you can rush straight and take a couple of kills depending upon the number of enemies being stunned by the smoke. So if you find enemies cluttered together somewhere, always remember that paralyzing the target first will present you easy kills and you will be able to deal with more enemies which otherwise can be difficult.
If you haven’t yet, now is the time you get used to the quick reload feature as it can be extremely helpful specially when surrounded by a group of enemies. This technique is useful while using Sawed-off shotgun as it’s reload after one round takes more time.
There are some new weapons included in the game and each one is fun to use which of course also depends on your playing style. The traditional Lancer rifle is there for more mature players who like to pick their enemies from distance. The new Retro-Lancer although isn’t as accurate as the other 2 assault rifles but its bayonet can be used to melee enemies when it’s activated (holding the melee button) state comes in contact with the enemy.
The most interesting and fun to play weapon is the new Sawed-off shotgun through which you can literally piss off your opponents. It will takes some practice to maser the efficient use of the gun but once you can create a lot disturbance in the enemy ranks.
Grenades cane be used to destroy a group of enemies found together in open or in a nook. Digger Launcher more or less works like a C4. Your planted seed will sense the enemy nearby and will blast damaging anyone in the radius.
It’s a medium map where you can expect a lot of close encounters. Two spawn points are at the lateral wings of the map. At the beginning of the map, most players try to get to the Digger Launcher first. You can use the smoke grenade at the sight to make it difficult for the enemies to snatch the gun and get away.
If you are not good at using the shotguns then Retro-Lancer is the gun recommended in this map. Map’s symmetry is such that it encourages the flanking strategy. So always keep an eye on the enemies trying to flank you from the opposite sides.
It’s a big map with a lot of open space. Long range shooting is expected for the most part so the assault rifles like Lancer and Hammerburst are effective weapons of choice. Spawn points are to the east and west sides of the map.
If you want to grab the Digger Launcher or the Square bow placed at the center of the map near the scoreboard then you should hurry as once the board is shot down, these weapons will be unavailable for rest of the map.
To the south end of the map are the tunnels that can be used to flank your enemies. It’s one of the high traffic areas of the map so always expect some company in there. You can use the smoke or Digger Launcher to deal with the nearby enemies before entering the tunnels.
