Mortal Kombat 2011 Characters Guide

Mortal Kombat is a fighting game with great history and some interesting background stories related to the featured fighters in the game. If you have been following the Mortal Kombat series then you will know about most of the characters except for the few that have been introduced for the first time.

This guide will provide you with all the information you need to know about each character in the game so that you can choose the one that suits your style that is if you haven’t already decided which one is your type.

Mortal Kombat 2011 Characters Guide

Baraka first appeared in Mortal Kombat II as a leader of a group named “Tarkatan”. He has been in the service of an emperor “Shao Kahn” in MK2 to MK Trilogy. Aided with a blade on his hand, Baraka can perform some ruthless special moves like Chop Chop blades and X-ray.

Cyber Sub-Zero
Cyber Sub-Zero, a Cyborg is one of the two hidden characters in the game (other being Quan Chi). Although the character is a transformation of Kuia Liang (young sub-zero), Cyber Sub-Zero has its own fatalities like “Cold Shoulder”. His other special moves like the Ice ball and Ice Bomb result into some icy cold kills.

First appeared in MK3, Cyrax is one of the 3 Cyborgs (characters transformed into robots). He is a Ninja assassin who can execute typical assassin moves along with some mind moves (ninjutsu). Among weapons he seems to be a explosive specialist as he can use unlimited amount during fights.

Emarc first appeared in Mortal Kombat 3 Ultimate. He is believed to be incarnated from the souls and legions destroyed in the world of Outworld. Since he is a collection of different souls combined in one body through magic, his most of the moves are telekinesis related or controlling living tissues.

She first appeared as an unplayable character in MK2 while she was made playable in MK3. She is equipped with Bo and Boomerang and she can use them to execute moves like Razor-Rang. Among her other special moves are Dodging Shadows, Blazing Nitro Kicks and X-ray attack.

He made his debut in MK2. This semi cybernetic soldier is the leader of Outer World Investigation. Since he is a soldier, his fighting style is based on physical attacks like shaking the earth with a single punch and crushing opponents health. His bionic arms boost the effect of his physical attacks.

Johnny Cage
Also known as Johny Carlton. He is one of the originals (featured in first Mortal Kombat game in the series). He is martial art specialist and being agile, he can execute variety of moves like some Uppercut moves and kicks. He has also mastered the Karate style of fighting.

This fictional Mortal Kombat character first appeared in MK3. The strange respirator on his face is due to the damage he received during one of the attacks (he managed to survive that attack) guided by Shao Kahn. He is the quickest character in the Mortal Kombat series and with his pair of hookswords, he can tear enemy apart in ruthless manner. He can also use his mask to launch a projectile, “Plasma Blast”.

Kano’s face is covered with a red metal plate mask covering almost half of his face. He is an aggressive as well as a cunning character. The leader of the Black Dragon organization, Kano’s moves are weapon dependent. Like he can throw his butterfly knives at enemies or use them in hand to hand combat. One of his fatalities named “Heart Rip” is one of the most violent (and hence controversial) fatalities in the series.

Princess Katana made her debut in MK2 as the step daughter of Shao Kahn. She acted as one of the personal assassins of Shao Kahn along with Jade. Although she is good at unarmed hand to hand kombat, many of her moves are based on the steel fan she holds in her hand. She can use this fan as both a melee weapon as well as a projectile weapon.

A real feast for god of War fans. He is a PS3 exclusive character and will be making his debut in the series. Kratos either can use his fists or his well known “Blades of Exile” to perform different moves. No exclusive character for Xbox 360 has been officially announced yet.

Kung Lao
Kung Lao, a former Shaolin is a descendant of the “Great Kung Lao” . In agility, strength and martial arts, Kung Lao is similar too Liu Kang. He can use his razor edged hat as a weapon to inflict severe damage. He is also possessed by teleporting abilities.

Liu Kang
He is one of the originals and one of the most popular characters in the series. He has been victorious in every MK tournament he is involved in. He is associated with fire element and can shoot fire bound projectiles. He is also a martial artist and well known for his agility and strength.

She first appeared in MKII. She is actually a clone of princess Kitana made by Shang Tsung for Shao Kahn. Since she is a clone, she possess the same aptitude as Katina except for the weapon of choice. Her sharp teeth hidden under the veil can tear enemy apart in her various special attack and fatalities.

This Apache warrior was first introduced in the series in MK3. He can use spirit energy to demonstrate bow and arrow and can form tomahwaks which are empowered by an ethereal green flame. He can also throw different projectiles at his enemies.

Noob Saibot
He is one of the originals and is famous for his unique outlook. Before he was transformed, he was good at using various freezing attacks. Now he is possessed by phantom and shadow kind of powers. In the latest installment, he will also be able to use his shadow clone in the fights.

Quan Chi
He made his debut in Mortal Kombat Mythology and was first playable in MK4. He is one of the primary villains in the series. Being the most powerful sorcerer of Netherrealm, he is an effective user of black magic. He uses skulls and other skeleton structures for both offense and defense. His other powers are shape shifting, life force/soul stealing, and power nullifying.

He is one of the originals and is also known as the god of the thunder. He has complete control over electricity and can fire torrents of lightning or concentrated blasts. He also posses the ability to fly and teleport.

He made his debut in the original Mortal Kombat game. He was made playable in MK2. Although he looks human for the most part but the skin only act as a mere disguise as his moves are mostly reptilian, like the poisonous fluid he splits from his mouth. He can also render himself completely invisible.

He along with Sub-Zero and Raiden holds the medal of being featured in every game in the Mortal Kombat series. His moves are associate with hellfire element. He has the teleporting ability which can be used to ambush or surprise enemies. He has the ability to use different weapons like axes, knives etc to execute a variety of attacks.

This fictional character in Mortal Kombat series made his debut in MK3. He is a warrior accompanied by mechanical armor that enhance his abilities. He is a ninja as well as merciless killing machine. His mechanic suit is provided with weapons that are effective in long range combat. Now he has two dual pulse blades which can help him in the close range combat.

Shang Tsung
He is also one of the originals and is one of the primary villains in the series. He needs to consume soul to maintain his power and strength. He can shape shift into different souls he has absorbed. He is associated with the element of fire and a user of black magic.

This 4 armed female made her debut in MK3. Being a Shokan, she has incredible strength. She can summon fireballs and use teleporting stomp. Her fireballs are more powerful than the other related characters.

She made her appearance first in MK3. Known for her gloomy appearance, she is the mother of Princess Kitana. Ultrasonic scream is one of her trademark abilities. She can also use her hair (she can increase their length) to grab the opponents to inflict damage.

This cyborg assassin first made his appearance in MK2. Among other cyborg ninjas, Smoke specializes in speed and stealth. He can use smoke to divert enemy and cause damage with it. He is armed with rockets just like Sektor and he also possess the ability to transform himself into smoke.

Sonya Blade
A member of Earthrealm forces, she is a tough warrior. She is also one of the original fighters in the series. She can use fireball projectiles and can use her feet to grab the opponents and then toss them in different ways.

Kurtis Stryker
He first appeared in MK3 as stout looking soldier. He can use the modern firearms and explosives to annihilate his enemies. By his baton, he can propel himself forward with incredible speed towards the opponent and can either trip them or throw them away.

Younger brother of Noob Saibot, Sub-Zero is also known by the name of Kuai Liang. He has the distinction of being the only playable character in every installment of the MK series. He can use his freezing ability to execute various moves. He is also able to make weapons out of ice. Throughout the MK series, Sub-Zero’s abilities have been improved a lot and the tradition continues in Mortal Kombat 2011.
