Singularity is a science fiction first-person shooter developed by Raven Software. The game is rip off of some of the games, we loved and enjoyed in the past, but still is a game worth playing. So to streamline your gaming experience and get you right into playing it without any issues, here is a fix guide of Singularity, which focuses on common errors and bugs in the game with workarounds and some most sought-out tweaks.
1# Game Crashes When Loading The Checkpoint
Install DirectX and PhysX from the game DVD. If what you have on your system is, the newer version then the game, uninstall them both and reinstall them from the game DVD. If it still doesn’t work, download and install the latest version of PhysX and DirectX.
2# Game Sound/Audio Very Low in Windows 7/Vista Mixer
When you start Singularity, it reduces the volume in Windows 7 mixer by 80%, its a driver override issue that arise in games using Unreal Engine. So you have to follow this guide below to fix the low sound volume.
1. Start Game.
2. [ALT] + [TAB] 3. Go to your system tray by your clock and locate the icon that looks like a speaker.
4. Now, either right-click on speaker and chose “open volume mixer” or left click on it and click “mixer” underneath the volume slider.
5. You should now see Sigularity’s volume control, drag it up to the top.
Alternatively, go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Click on Communications Tab and select “Do Nothing” radio button and it will fix this issue, its a permanent fix.
3# Game Sound/Audio Low in Windows XP
While in XP, for those who are having the same issue of low sound volume, you can try reducing the hardware acceleration, or configure your speakers to Stereo.
4# Textures Not Loading Properly
Singularity sometimes doesn’t load textures properly when you are playing on very high resolution, resulting in low res texture areas. There is no workaround till now as this is due to the game engine, the only thing you can do is, lower your resolution.
5# Game Doesn’t Save ?
There is no quicksave in-game, only checkpoints get to save, in case you are having problems saving your checkpoints. You can check your game save data, “c:\users\”your username”\My Documents\Singularity\RvGame\SaveData”.
6#Controls and Graphics Tweaking Manually
You can change the graphics, and controls from the registry editor, to do that go here “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Activision\Singularity”. You will see the graphics and other options on the right side of the window.
7# Config Settings “How to Edit Config Files”
Singularity is a UE3 game, so by default should have config settings. Yes, it does have config settings but they are not visible. Go to “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Activision\Singularity” and you will find .ini with all the config options.
8# “How to Change FOV”
Singularity .ini file in registry doesn’t have any option where you can edit your field of view in-game. So we are left with a workaround, that is, add a “DWORD” key named “FieldOfView” with a value in Decimals, it is the only way currently to change the default field of view.
9#Texture Streaming Issues
Singularity has the worst texture streaming shortcomings of any game that has been developed on Unreal Engine 3. If you are among those who are facing these issues, you can check this workaround to resolve these issues until an official patch is released.
10# Crashes to Desktop
If your game crashes to desktop from time to time, update your graphic card drivers, reinstall DirectX and PhysX. If the problem persists, try running the game from the shortcut, not from the game folder executable.
11# Nothing Happens When I Run Singularity
If you click on Singularity executable and nothing happens. Right click on the executable, go to properties, and select the compatibility tab, tick Run in Compatibility Mode ” and select “Windows XP Service Pack 2”.
12# Mouse Issues
If you are facing problems with mouse movements, disconnect any game controllers connected to your system and relaunch the game.
Enjoy the game.
