How to Unlock Dragon Age:Origins Dev Console to Enable Cheats

Dragon Age:Origins is one of the finest PC roleplaying games of the past year and probably a contender to be the no.1 game on PC for 2009. The story, the gameplay, graphics and the rpg elements everything perfectly placed to make it a must play for everyone.

When I played that game, my response was, if and only it had multiplayer, I might never play another game. Anyhow if you get stuck somewhere like once I was, you can always use some cheats to pass through and continue your campaign.

I am sure there are several trainers out there, some of those work and some don’t. There is a way in game as well to enable cheats and that is via Dev Console but its kinda risky, too much messing around and you may lose integrity of your save game files.
Anyway here is how you can unlock Dragon Age:Origins dev console to enable cheats.

How to Unlock Dragon Age Origins Dev Console

Skip to step #6  if you have steam version of the game installed.

Step 1
Make a shortcut to “daorigins.exe” on your desktop. You can find the executable in “Dragon Age/bin_ship/daorigins.exe”.

Step 2
Right click on newly created shortcut and go to its “Properties” and under target tab, add the following lines of code after {“daorigins.exe”<space>}.

It will give you an error unless you add single space between “daorigins.exe” and “-enabledeveloperconsole”.
Path and code in target tab now should look similar to this:

“C:\Program Files\Dragon Age\Bin_ship\daorigins.exe” -enabledeveloperconsole”

Note: There is a space between “daorigins.exe” and “-enabledeveloperconsole”.

Step 3
Now find “keybindings.ini” file located here “My Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\Settings\”

Step 4
Open keybindings.ini file and find the line: “OpenConsole_0=Keyboard::Button_GRAVE”, change the GRAVE to any button you wish to assign for console. Lets say you want to use “C” key for this, change “Button_GRAVE” to “Button_C”. Save the file and you are good to go.

Step 5
Start the game with this shortcut you just created, and while in game press the key you assigned for console while editing keybindings.ini file.

Step 6
Now if you have steam version of the game, things are little different. To enable the dev console in steam version of dragon age origins, right click on the game icon in steam and select properties.

Now click “Set Launch Options” and finally enter “-enabledeveloperconsole” into the box and hit OK. Once you have loaded your game, hit the tild “~” button to open developer console.
