Recently Steam announced a DLC for original l4d which will be released in a few days time. Now this Campaign particularly designed for versus mode will also be released on PC after it is released on Xbox 360. Xbox360 fans might be disappointed to know that they are charging for this DLC on Xbox360 while it is free on PC.
Many fans out there might blame Valve for this step as game has been designed by them. It’s true that game has been designed by them but they have no control on Xbox platform when it comes to decide pricing of the content.
Microsoft forced them to do so as told by Chet Faliszek to Eurogamer in an interview:
“We own our platform, Steam. Microsoft owns their platform. They wanted to make sure there’s an economy of value there,” Faliszek told Eurogamer today when asked about the 560 Microsoft Points (£4.76 / €6.72) price tag for Crash Course.”
They wanted to make this content absolutely free but Microsoft insisted otherwise.Their(Valve’s) courtesy might have something to do with their upcoming L4d2 so that they can make their fans happy before the next big release. Anyhow, since they have control over PC,Crash Course DLC is absolutely free on PC.
Another thing that has been revealed in the talk is that, it is not yet confirmed that L4D content will also work with L4D 2. He said if compatibility is made between the 2 versions than this DLC will also work in L4D 2 but that is a separate thing and has not been finalized yet.
Steam might have stored some surprises for us and I can’t wait for L4D 2 to be released this November.
