How to Switch Between Call of Duty 4 Patch 1.1 and Patch 1.7

Most of people around were in shock and excitement when they heard the launch of PTCL Gaming Lounge. Anyway as we all know by now that PTCL is very much a noob gaming service provider at this stage of the time, Yes!! I am talking about the patch issues.

Our comrade <<V>> n{GP}mY provided us with a nice little trick to resolve this patch issue. Here is the way you can switch between cod 4 patch 1.1 and patch 1.7 to enjoy pawning at any server till the patch is updated to 1.7 ofcourse.

How to Switch Between Cod4 Patch 1.1 and Patch 1.7
I have discovered a way to change 1.7 to 1.0, regardless if its a Steam installation or not.

Step 1
You must have two files from a previous 1.0 installation however. If your CD came pre-patched with a higher version, you will have to ask someone with 1.0 for these two files:

iw3mp.exe
code_post_gfx_mp.ff

Be sure to backup these files in case you want to go to 1.7 again.

The first one (iw3mp.exe) is in the COD 4 folder itself. The second file (code_post_gfx_mp.ff) is located in the “English” folder within the “zone” folder. Copy the 1.0 versions of these files, and replace the 1.7 files in their respective places.

After that, you’re finished! The game is now “de-patched” to 1.0.

Step 2
If you currently have 1.0 installed, you can play both 1.0 and 1.7 servers.

1. Make a copy of the activision game folder. (located in c:\program files) Right click on the Activision folder and click “copy”

2. Place the copied activision game folder in the program folders directory by right clicking in an empty space and then “paste”. A “copy of Activision” folder will be created.

3. Right click on “copy of Activision” folder and click rename. Rename folder Activision2. (You now have 2 different activision folders in c:\program files: activision and activision2)

4. Install the 1.6 and 1.7 patches to the default directory. This will update activision folder files to version 1.7, but leave the activision2 folder files with version 1.0

5. Go into c:\program files\activision2\Call of Duty 4 – Modern Warfare\

6. right click on iw3mp.exe ===> send to ===> desktop (create shortcut) and create a shortcut to your desktop.

To play a 1.7 game, use you old COD4 shortcut(s). To play a 1.0 game, use the iw3mp.exe shortcut you created on your desktop.

For those that may have reservations about migrating to 1.7, this is an option that will give you the chance to play both, check out the new maps, and better decide what would work best for you.
