1 vs 100 Spiritual Successor To Land on Xbox One in Future

Microsoft has promised to bring “something like” 1 vs 100 on the Xbox One in the time to come.

The interactive game show was released on the Xbox 360 back in 2009 and ran for two seasons. Players were pitted against 100 other players for a chance to win 10,000 Microsoft Points.

In 2010 Microsoft announced that 1 vs 100 would not be getting a third season, but perhaps the announcement was so because the Xbox One was already in development and the company perhaps wanted to shift the title over.

Speaking with Polygon in an interview, General Manager Dave McCarthy said that they are currently working on something similar to the title and fans would be pleased to know that in the future they’ll get a new version of 1 vs 100. He however did not name it as 1 vs 100, so the new title will be more of a spiritual successor.

“It has a good image here,” said McCarthy. “The approach is something we really enjoyed. We will do something in the future for Xbox One that is like that, because spiritually we thought it was a pretty cool experience ourselves.”

McCarthy was the one who announced the end of 1 vs 100 back in 2010. During the beta season for the show more than 114,000 people played the game on Live simultaneously. Who wouldn’t participate in a trivia contest for the chance to gain 10,000 Microsoft Points?

“The notion of bringing a large number of people together in both a social and let’s say a more casual gaming format is something we believe in a lot,” added McCarthy. “In some ways 1 vs. 100 was a little bit ahead of its time. From a production perspective it gave us a few challenges in terms of the sheer effort to bring that to market on a regular basis.”
