AMD Vega Mining Performance Is “Insanely Good” But Does It Matter?
AMD Vega has just been revealed and the GPUs are being tested as we speak by reviewers. Overclockers UK has stated that AMD Vega mining performance is insanely good. I think this is one of the rare cases where we fear a GPU being incredibly powerful instead of being excited about it.
I am talking about the mining problem that we have and because of which GPUs are totally out of stock. This is a first world problem of course. AMD Vega mining performance is between 70 and 100 MH/s. To give you an idea of how high that is, the RX 480 manages 25MH/s while the GTX 1080 Ti offering 32MH/s.
Considering how competitively priced the Vega GPUs are as compared to the GTX 1080 Ti, you can see why AMD Vega is great value for money for miners and why they could go out of stock as soon as they hit the market.
AMD has tried to keep the miners out of the equation by introducing gaming related bundles but I do not think that this will work too well. The price of the GPUs with the bundles is still competitive as compared to the price of the GTX 1080 Ti considering that people can sell the game codes included with the bundle later on.
It is possible that retailers will limit the number of cards that a customer can buy in order to keep stock in check. This is not something new and we have seen this happen with Pascal GPUs in the past. Mining is a real issue that is affecting the gaming community and AMD and Nvidia need to address this issue. The sooner the better.
Let us know what you think about AMD Vega mining performance and whether or not you are interested in buying one of these GPUs when they come out.
