You also get a higher number of cores and threads as compared to what Intel has to offer. AMD Ryzen is a new platform and you will need some AMD Ryzen CPU optimization in order to get the most out of your system.

It is important to note that this AMD Ryzen CPU optimization guide is for gaming and takes the load off the CPU memory controller in order to provide better performance in games. If you are going to be doing tasks outside of gaming then you will be better off without this AMD Ryzen CPU optimization as you will be sacrificing memory performance to offload the CPU’s memory controller.

It is also important to mention here that the new BIOS updates will allow you to get additional 75-100 MHz at the same voltage.   • Geardown Mode: Off (major effect on CPU)
  • BankGroupSwap: Off (major effect on CPU; should only be toggled with Single Rank memory)
  • RankInterleaving: auto (left on default, untested; should only be toggled with Dual Rank Memory)
  • Memory Clock: 3200MHz (no effect on CPU)
  • Timings: tuned (affects memory stability only)
  • Command Rate: 2T (affects memory stability only)
  • Vdram: 1.350V

As mentioned before you will note that this memory tradeoff will not bode well for you if you plan on doing anything outside of gaming. Similar to memory tweaks, there are CPU tweaks that you can do in order to get better performance and they are as follows:

  • SVM: off (negligible effect)
  • IOMMU: off (minor effect)
  • SMT: off (major effect. Not recommended if you utilize hyper threading or have ryzen 5)
  • AMD Cool & Quiet: default (affects power efficiency. Negligible effect) (you can turn it off)
  • GLOBAL C-state control: default (affects power efficiency. Minor effect on CPU if you turn it off)

Having done all these memory and CPU tweaks, you will find that the following settings are the best and stable for this hardware configuration:

  • CPU Clock: 3.9GHz
  • Vcore: 1.356V
  • Memory Clock: 3200MHz 18-20-20-41-2T
  • Vdram: 1.350V (actual 1.38V)
  • VSoc: Auto (~1.100V)
