Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age Espers

Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age Espers Guide to help you learn all you need to know about Espers, their locations, & Gambits. Espers in Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age are essentially the game’s version of the Summon. There are a total of 13 Espers in FFXII & in order to summon them, you must defeat them in battle. You defeat 5 Espers during the natural course of the game & must find the remaining 8. Those of you who don’t know where to look at, this guide should help.

In addition to their combat prowess, Espers also bridge the 12 License Boards. The reason for this is that each Esper Node, there are hidden nodes that you cannot unlock otherwise. However, it’s important to note that Espers can only be assigned to one class that prevents every character from accessing all available nodes. This essentially requires you to decide which Esper to give to which class.

Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age Espers Guide

In our Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age Espers Guide, we’ve detailed all you need to know about Espers in FFXII.

Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age Espers

Espers in the game come in three levels & are hard to defeat. Due to this, I recommend having a high level before taking them on. Final Fantasy XII Espers have no charge time & replace two main characters in your party. Although Espers deal a significant amount of damage, they are not nearly as effective as Quickenings in the game.

Belias, the Gigas

Mist Charge: 1
Status Effects: Libra, Ignore Reflect

This story-related Esper is found in Tomb of Raithwall. Although weaker than most of the Espers, you should be able to use it during the first few Hunt Marks & against enemies with a weakness to Fire Magick.

  • Cura – Ally: HP<100%
  • Attack – Foe: Nearest Visible
  • Painflare – Foe: Fire-vulnerable
  • Hellfire – Summon Time Remaining < 10 Seconds

Mateus, the Corrupt

Mist Charge: 1
Status Effects: Libra, Ignore Vitality

This story-related Esper is found in The Stilshrine of Miriam. It utilizes a variety of Ice Magicks & is fairly effective against enemies who have a weakness to Ice Magick.

  • Cura – Ally: HP<100%
  • Attack – Foe: Nearest Visible
  • Flash-Freeze – Foe: Ice-vulnerable
  • Frostwave – Summon Time Remaining < 10 Seconds

Shemhazai, the Whisperer

Mist Charge: 2
Status Effects: Haste, Libra, Ignore Reflect, & Ignore Environmental Effects

This story-related Esper is found in Giruvegan. A vast majority of enemies & bosses in the game are immune to her All-or-Nothing Attack, however, you can still use her on lesser enemies.

  • Curaja – Ally: HP<100%
  • Devour Soul – Foe: Nearest Visible
  • Soul Purge – Summon Time Remaining < 10 Seconds

Hashmal, Bringer of Order

Mist Charge: 2
Status Effects: Libra, Ignore Vitality, & Ignore Reflect

This story-related Esper is found in The Pharos, Third Ascent. Since a vast majority of the game’s flying enemies are weak against Earth-based attacks, you should waste no time in bringing Hashmal against them.

  • Curaja – Ally: HP<100%
  • Attack – Foe: Nearest Visible
  • Roxxor – Foe: Earth-Vulnerable
  • Gaia’s Wrath – Summoning Time Remaining < 10 Seconds

Famfrit, the Darkening Cloud

Mist Charge: 3
Status Effects: Protect, Shell, Libra, Ignore Vitality, & Ignore Reflect

This story-related Esper is found in The Pharos, Third Ascent. The Esper has Water-based attacks that you can use in order to make up for weak Water-based Magicks in the game.

  • Renew – Ally: HP<100%
  • Attack – Foe: Nearest Visible
  • Briny Cannonade – Foe: Water-Vulnerable
  • Tsunami – Summon Time Remaining < 10 Seconds

Adrammelech, the Wroth

Mist Charge: 1
Status Effects: Faith, Libra, Ignore Vitality

This Esper is found in Zertinan Caverns during Paying for the Past side-quest. The Esper has a fairly strong Lightning-based attack that deals an incredible amount of damage. However, it does have a small HP pool, which is why I recommend using Bubble to increase it right after summoning it.

  • Curaga – Ally: HP<100%
  • Attack – Foe: Nearest Visible
  • Flash Arc – Foe: Lightning-vulnerable
  • Judgment Bolt – Summon Time Remaining < 10 Seconds

Cuchulainn, the Impure

Mist Charge: 2
Status Effects: Reflect, Protect, Shell, Brave, Libra, Focus, Counter, & Ignore Vitality

This Esper is found in Garamsythe Waterway during Lost in the Pudding Hunt & Sluiceway Search. With an immense HP pool, this is fairly straightforward Esper to use. When combined with a decent melee character, it should become unstoppable.

  • Attack – Foe: Undead
  • Curaja – Ally: HP<100%
  • Malaise – Foe: Nearest Visible
  • Blight – Summon Time Remaining < 10 Seconds

Chaos, Walker of the Wheel

Mist Charge: 3
Status Effects: Reflect, Haste, Faith, & Libra

This Esper is found in Necrohol of Nabudis after the completion of Waterway Hunting, Lost in the Puddling, & Broken Artifact side-quests. It’s an incredible Esper to use against enemies who are weak to Wind-based attacks. However, I highly suggest equipping an Opal Ring before summoning it.

  • Renew – Ally: HP<100%
  • Attack – Foe: Nearest Visible
  • Whirlwind – Foe: Wind-vulnerable
  • Tornado – Summon Time Remaining < 10 Seconds

Zalera, the Death Seraph

Mist Charge: 1
Status Effects: Libra, Ignore Vitality, & Ignore Reflect

This Esper is found in Terminus No. 7 after the completion of Dalmasca’s Desert Bloom, Pursuit of a Cure, & Missing Ferryman quests.

  • Cura – Ally: HP <100%
  • Kill – Foe: Nearest Visible
  • Condemnation – Summoning Time Remaining < 10 Seconds

Zeromus, the Condemner

Mist Charge: 2
Status Effects: Libra, Ignore Reflect, & Ignore Environmental Effects

This Esper is found in Mt. Bur-Omisace during the Stone of the Condemner side-quest. Since Gravity Well & Big Bang both deal damage based on the HP enemies are missing, I suggest weakening them a little before summoning the Esper.

  • Gravity Well – Foe: Nearest Visible
  • Big Bang – Summon Time Remaining < 10 Seconds

Exodus, the Judge-Sal

Mist Charge: 2
Status Effects: Haste, Faith, Libra, & Ignore Reflect

This Esper is found in Mosphoran Highwaste after the completion of Floatweed Puzzle in the area. When it comes to this Esper, the Ardor is decent damage but the Comet & Meteor are completely random.

  • Curaja – Ally: HP<100%
  • Ardor – Foe: Fire-vulnerable
  • Attack – Foe: Nearest Visible
  • Meteor – Summon Time Remaining < 10 Seconds

Ultima, the High Seraph

Mist Charge: 3
Status Effects: Reflect, Protect, Shell, Haste, Libra, & Magick Charge Time 0

This Esper is found in Giruvegan, hidden somewhere in the heart of Giruvegan’s Great Crystal. Since she enters the battle with Reflect, try to equip the Opal Ring before summoning her.

  • Renew – Ally: HP<100%
  • Attack – Foe: Nearest Visible
  • Redemption – Foe: Holy-vulnerable
  • Eschaton – Summoning time remaining < 10 Seconds

Zodiark, Keeper of Precepts

Mist Charge: 3
Status Effects: Protect, Shell, Haste, Faith, Libra, Ignore Vitality, & Magick Charge Time 0

The final Esper is found in Henne Mines after you’ve collected at least 10 other Espers in the game. It’s one of the most powerful Espers in the game with Scathe that can wipe an entire group of enemies & Final Eclipse that can deal around 50,000 damage in a single sweep.

  • Renew – Ally: HP < 100%
  • Attack – Foe: Nearest Visible
  • Banish Ray – Foe: Dark-vulnerable
  • Final Eclipse – Summoning time remaining < 10 Seconds
