Mining craze is at an all-time high but there is an issue with the Intel 100 and 200 series chipset if you are using 3 or more GPUs. While the device manager will detect 4 GPUs, there will be an exclamation mark next to one or more GPUs, which means that the GPUs are not working properly. MSI 100 and 200 series motherboards have got a BIOS update that resolves this issue.

Due to the high volume of mining, AMD GPUs are being sold like hot cakes and miners are buying all the GPUs that they can get their hands on. We recently reported that the RX 580 and RX 570 GPUs were out of stock at major hardware retailers and that is because of minors. Manufacturers want to increase supply but are hesitant because AMD Vega and Nvidia Volta are on the horizon.

If you own MSI 100 or 200 series motherboards then you can update the BIOS and get up to 6 AMD cards working properly. The motherboards that are affected by the BIOS update are Z170-A PRO, Z170A SLI PLUS, Z170 KRAIT GAMING, Z170A KRAIT GAMING, Z170A KRAIT GAMING 3X, Z270-A PRO, H270-A PRO.

AMD and Nvidia will be releasing GPUs aimed at the mining market in order to counter the shortage of gaming GPUs and to capitalize on this business opportunity. This might divert the attention of miners as sources claim that these mining GPUs will be cheaper but will come without display adapters which means that they can only be used for mining and not for gaming.

There are a couple of steps that you will need to follow in order to get 6 GPUs running properly on MSI 100 and 200 series motherboards and you can check out the official website for the guide.

Let us know what you think about this BIOS update coming out for MSI 100 and 200 series motherboards that lets miners configure 6 GPUs.
