Killer Instinct Fights Its Way to Steam This Year

By   /   Jun 19, 2017

Killer Instinct is finally breaking free from the clutches of the Microsoft Store on Windows 10 and releasing on Steam later this year.

The announcement came during the annual iteration of the Community Effort Orlando (CEO) fighting game tournament over the weekend and fans could not be more happier. The free-to-play brawler has been around for over three years now but it is understandable that many have chosen to stay away because of multiple reasons. This may be due to the fact that there are still those who have yet to update their operating systems to Windows 10 or who simply prefer other services.

Killer Instinct coming to Steam will not only allow such consumers to try out the game for the first time, but also impact the health and longevity of the brawler in a positive manner. The community is likely to bolster with new players coming in, resulting in more competition and support from the developer.

Details regarding the release are pending. It is unknown if players will still be required to run the game on Windows 10 or if older operating system will suffice. There is also the question of whether or not it will support cross-buy and cross-play functionality. Those who already own the game on either Xbox One or Microsoft Store will possibly be hoping to transfer their purchase over to the new and more popular digital platform.

Killer Instinct has completed three seasons since its launch. During this time, regular updates have introduced new characters to the roster. The latest one is Eagle, who officially becomes available later this month. The Steam version should be updated to the latest patch on release but we will have to see if it also contains the updated roster as well.

Iron Galaxy should be answering our questions soon.
