Death Stranding was absent from this year’s Sony E3 press conference and fans are eager to know more about the game. We are yet to see any gameplay for the this highly anticipated title and many of you would be forgiven for thinking that the game was revealed too early and is in early development.

However, President of Sony Interactive America, Shawn Layden, talked about the game and its absence from E3 2017. When asked about if the game actually exists outside of trailers shown till now he clarified that the game is “up and running” and devs already have some prototype levels already running.

No, no – it’s up and running, it’s been aided tremendously after Kojima-San decided to co-opt the Decima engine from Guerrilla [that powered Horizon Zero Dawn]. And, gosh, that really gave him a leg up to get up and running and test it and have some prototype levels running. I couldn’t explain to you what the game is…

Layden further revealed that he has actually played the game himself and when asked if the game is promising or not he just reiterated that the game exists and that is all he can reveal for now.

There is a lot of hype surrounding the upcoming game from Hideo Kojima and there is also speculation on the internet about Stefanie Joosten, who played Quiet in Metal Gear Solid V, is involved with the game. However, when asked about it, she neither confirmed or denied it saying that she can’t really say.

Also, Hideo Kojima revealed why he chose to develop Death Stranding after leaving Konami. According to Kojima, this was his best idea for the gaming market at that time.

No release date has been announced for Death Stranding, but Hideo Kojima has hinted that the game will launch in 2018 exclusively for PlayStation 4.
