Metro: Exodus is Inspired by S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Will Remain Linear
While E3 2017 was a dull event this year, Metro: Exodus became a saving grace. Developer 4A Games announced Metro: Exodus for Xbox One X, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game footage we saw at Microsoft’s press conference gave an impression of an open world environment.
However, that is not the case; According to 4A executive producer Jon Bloch, Metro will stay true to its linear roots and they won’t be experimenting too much with this element. With that said, developers are aiming for a more sandbox survival experience.
First and foremost we’re not moving away from the classic linear Metro gameplay. We still have that, but what we’re doing with this new gameplay is more like sandbox survival.
Bloch said that Metro this time around is inspired by S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Exodus is S.T.A.L.K.E.R meets Metro, a shift back and forth between different straightforward segments and vast open areas combined to form Metro: Exodus.
There’s large levels that offer a lot more freedom, they’re non-linear, but we will have a story wrapped into them. So the story will carry through across the non-linear and linear levels It’s not exactly an open-world as you may be thinking, but we’re able to offer the player a lot more freedom than in the past.
The story of the game takes place over the course of a year and tunnels are still a major part of Metro. Exodus is releasing on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One S, PC sometime in 2018. The game will be properly optimized for Xbox One X, which means 4K native for X buyers.
